2 Corinthians 12:1

1 I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.

The King James Version of this passage reads as follows…

2 Corinthians 12:1

1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

Even though the Apostle wished he wasn’t in this mode of boasting, he is forced to continue in order to prove he is in fact an Apostle approved by the One who called him to such a place by Jesus Christ Himself. Paul understands all too well that it is pointless to boast about yourself. I like the word that the KJV uses instead of “boasting.” It uses “glory” instead. This is really what it boils down to…the focus of our glory. Do we tend to give ourselves far too much glory? Or, do we focus our glory upon the only One who really deserves it? Paul wants the church in Corinth to understand that God himself stepped into his life and empowered him for the calling he has been given by the Creator. I believe he implies here that the “boasting” he is doing about himself is actually giving glory to the Lord. Everything he has been bragging about is about the Lord. I want to repeat something that I said many times…it’s not about us, but about the Lord. Our calling, our gifts, our talents, our resources, etc. are given to us by the Lord God Almighty. We can do no boasting about any of our blessings, for they are just that…gifts from above. We must glorify Him for them all, for without Him, they would not be ours!

Father God, I glory in you today. I reserve no glory for myself, for You alone are worthy of such glory. Give me the humility to submit to You and glorify You every moment of my daily life.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
