2 Corinthians 2:12-1312 Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me,
13 I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said good-by to them and went on to Macedonia.
Paul had several travelling and missionary companions, but he didn’t have very many “sons in the faith.” Titus was a special son to the Apostle and apparently was found to be useful in the advancement of the gospel. It’s really a great understatement to say Titus was special to Paul, for the Apostle even took the time to write a letter to him during his time of imprisonment in Rome. This letter, of course, serves us well today with its teachings, for it is contained in each of our Bibles. But let us never forget that Paul was human and had the desire to share his ministry with co-servants in the kingdom. Sometimes he had such people by his side, while at other times he found himself alone. Here is a lesson that I would like for every reader to take special note. Ministers of the gospel often find themselves alone and in need of companions to come alongside them to encourage and challenge them to fight the good fight, not to mention the peace of mind that comes with knowing someone has your back! We should certainly have the desire for such a person in our lives, but it’s just like what they often say about friendship…in order to have one you need to do your best to be one! By taking this challenge to heart, it’s hard to estimate how big of a difference you will make in someone’s life and walk with the Lord.
Father God, help me to be an encourager and co-servant with others in my life for the cause of Christ. May I go alongside my brothers and sisters in Christ and spur them on towards living a godly life while also sharing the message of Christ with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
