by Kirt Scott on March 2, 20232 Corinthians 12:6-10
6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say.7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
I have heard it said so many times that the Lord will not put on us something we cannot handle. I respectfully disagree completely with a that thought. It is actually unscriptural. It does say that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13), but God’s Word is clear that there will be times when we something comes our way that we will need help. Where does my help come from? It comes from the Lord! Paul yearned to have his “thorn in the flesh” removed, because it was just more than he could handle by himself…but he wasn’t by himself! The Lord reminded the Apostle that His grace is sufficient. This is yet another reason for him to glory in the Lord. In our weaknesses, the Lord proves not only that He is with us but proves that we can face it knowing His grace and power will sustain us through it all. The next time you face a situation that is stronger than you are, don’t fret and don’t fear, for you have the Lord of all creation there to keep you and sustain you through it all.
Father God, thank you for your power and grace revealed in my life daily. Guide and direct me through the good times and the bad. May I never lose my faith and hope in You, for my true help comes only from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
