2 Corinthians 2:10-1110 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven-- if there was anything to forgive-- I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake,
11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Let’s face the fact that Satan is very good at what he does against us as the children of God. He even works within us if we give him even an inch. One of those areas in which we allow him far too much room in our lives is the practice of forgiveness…rather UN-forgiveness. We don’t like to forgive others. (a.k.a. holding a grudge) We hold back forgiveness when we should freely practice it. We claim to be following Christ, and yet don’t act very much like Him at times. He forgave like no other. If anyone ever practiced true forgiveness it was our Lord and Savior. Some of His last words were, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!” Can you imagine hanging upon the torturous cross and making such a plea for those that put you there? We would probably call curses down upon them! Forgiveness would be the last thing on our mind at the time. But that is Jesus…and He has set the bar for each of us to aim for. He calls us to practice this thing called “forgiveness.” How are we doing?
Father God, give me a heart that desires to forgive those who have wronged me. Give me the heart of Jesus so that I can forgive and forgive freely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
