2 Corinthians 2:15-16

15 For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.

There are some truths about the gospel that are made ever so clear here in our passage for today. When Jesus returns, those who have accepted the gospel message will be saved from the onslaught of God’s wrath which will be poured out upon those who refused to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. The latter are perishing even as they draw their breaths here in the present. In the here and now, those who continue to refuse to accept the gospel might just get of whiff of their own death when a messenger of the gospel is around. It isn’t the messenger that he or she smells though but they are only sensing their own impending doom. Those who are ready to trust and obey, however, smell only the fragrance of life…eternal life in Christ. Are you saved and looking forward to eternity with the Lord? Or are you perishing at this moment and looking forward only to experiencing the wrath of God? The choice is up to you, just as it is up to every single person who hears the lifesaving, life-giving message of the gospel.

Father God, help me to make good, godly choices in my life. Thank you for the gospel and its life-saving, life-giving power that has given me the hope in which I now live for an eternity in your presence. May I utilize every opportunity I am given to share that very message with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
